FAQ
Name Change - Frequently asked questions
Why is a New NAme necessary?
We have been on a journey for several years to become One Community; a community where all are welcome and barriers to belonging are dismantled. We have been operating for many years with two recognizable names – Royal City Church and The Life Centre. Both names represent us as an organization, but not one name captures the whole. As such, we believe that one name for the whole organization would better help us to achieve the goal of becoming One Community. We also believe that one name will help bring more clarity to how we operate, especially in regards to accountability, donations, and governance.
ARE You changing your focus?
No. Our focus remains the same. We are still highly committed to our values of relationship, justice, and beauty. We’re still serving meals. We’re still worshipping as a church. We’re still reaching out to those who are pushed away and on the margins. We are still engaging downtown
Why royal city mission?
Mission is who we are; a faith-based organization engaging in downtown life. Guelph is known as the ‘Royal City’ and we embrace being a hub of connection in this city. We partner with individuals, businesses, churches, and community groups from across this beautiful city. Your support keeps us going. We believe we are the Royal City’s mission
When will I see the change?
We will be switching over to Royal City Mission on September 1, 2019. You can also find us online at royalcitymission.ca
What was the process for choosing a new name?
With most things here, it starts with conversation. We had both informal conversations and formal conversations in the community to discuss the name change – including the specific name Royal City Mission. Royal City Mission was a well received name in the community, the Board of Directors gave it the green light and the organization’s membership voted in favour of Royal City Mission on July 7, 2019.
Who should I make cheques out to?
Starting September 1, 2019, please start making out cheques to Royal City Mission. We will continue to accept cheques made out to either Royal City Church or The Life Centre for the remainder of 2019.
If you are a registered non-profit, we ask that you continue to make out cheques to Royal City Evangelical Missionary Church until January 1st, as we are planning on having our legal name changed then. How do I give directly to the Meal Program?
To continue to give directly to the Meal Program (the Life Centre’s flagship program), you can continue to do so:
Cheque: Please put ‘Meal Program’ on the memo line. Online: Please select ‘Meal Program’ from the list of funds. Pre-Authorized Giving: Please select ‘Meal Program’ from the listed funds. Does this jeopardize my pre-authorized or credit card giving?
Your pre-authorized or credit card giving will not be affected by this change.
How will this affect my tax receipt?
The only affect to your tax receipt is the name that the new receipts are issued under. Our charitable number will still be: 845427871RR0001
