Forecast: Foggy with Patches of Sunshine

8/7/2020

It's hard to plan when you don't really know what to expect - like painting a picture that neither you nor your audience can see. We are looking forward to September but with all of the uncertainties related to Cover-19, planning is tentative at best and flexibility is essential. Here's a short list of things that we do know...
Sunday meals coming to an end

Starting in September, we will no longer be serving meals on Sunday. Another local agency will provide a take-away meal service - we will let everyone know when we have more details. We have really enjoyed serving 7 days a week, but as things open up, we have other obligations to fulfill on Sundays.  Before the Cover-19 restrictions, there were three separate congregations worshipping at RCM on Sundays. As the restrictions are lifted, there will be four congregations using our space throughout the day.

The Cooling Centre will need to adapt

As the summer wears on, we have seen more people accessing our Cooling Centre. We wonder what the needs will be as the warm weather turns colder. We are thankful for our summer students who have been a huge help in running the Cooling Centre, but as they prepare to return to school or other jobs we will need additional support to keep up the Centre running. If you are available during daytime hours and are interested in helping with this, please contact Lisa Laws at [email protected]

Our Summer Students have been amazing!

Olivia, Ian, Kyle and Megan have been an incredible support over the summer. They have cleaned, painted, prepped meals, served meals and manned the Cooling Centre. We're thankful for the government's support for this program and for the good work these students have done. It has been a privilege to have them serve with us.

A Beautiful Gift

People have been incredibly generous and creative with their gift-giving. Recently Gina Duque, a local artist, gave us over 100 hand-printed pieces of art to give out to the community. This ties in so well with the value we place on beauty. Everyone deserves beauty in their lives and so we are thankful for this amazing gift. You can see Gina's art at ginaduque.com.

 Where you can help...
  • Please continue to bake - everyone loves the baked goods!
  • Drinks - we go through a lot of drinks during the hot days. Donations are greatly appreciated.
  • Volunteers are needed to monitor the Cooling Centre.
  • Good used furniture - We have an area that we are setting up as a quiet space so staff have a ‘refuge' to get work done. We're looking for good used furniture to create this space. 2-4 wingback chairs would be great, a couple of book shelves, etc. Please contact [email protected] if you think you have something we could use.
