This week we began to feel the fatigue of the situation. In conversations with staff, I have heard, “I am tired of this…” and as I sat down today, I felt as if I had hit a wall. I am reminded that we don’t do this work because of the pay…or the fame…or prestige…or the hours… No, our staff and volunteers work here because we love the community that we share our space with. While this may not seem like a great job perk, it is what drives us. To serve a meal without much interaction goes against the very nature of thiscommunity. We have often said, “we are not about the food!” This is so evident as we are unable to sit and share our lives with those who come to RCM. While we are struggling with this, we also recognize that serving meals is what we can do for now… so we keep doing it, looking forward to a time when we can sit across the table and share our day, our struggles, laughter and tears. Paul the Apostle, said in 1 Thessalonians 2:8: “We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News, but our own lives, too.” This is the attitude of our staff and volunteers. I am so privileged to work alongside people who love this community and put themselves at risk so that others have a sense of belonging and love. Their wages aren’t reflective of the heroes that they are…but they don’t work for that kind of reward. Please continue to pray for our team as we are missing community! Making Beautiful Things Thank you to several members of our community who have offered items for our gallery of beauty in our Royal City Mission Family group on Facebook. Keep them coming - they are inspiring creativity. You can upload your entries directly to the Royal City Mission Family group or send them to Gavin Wark. The MIDWEEK MEDITATION is moving. Each week several people have been interacting with our MIDWEEK MEDITATION post on Facebook. Beginning next Wednesday, the MIDWEEK MEDITATION will move from our main page to the Royal City Mission Family Group on Facebook which is a little more conducive to interaction within our community. We'd encourage you to join this group if you would like to share in the inner life of the community.
