More Guests Visiting Cooling Centre With this incredible heat, we have seen a rise in the use of our cooling centre. We are now seeing 15-25 people each day. They are so appreciative of a cool place to stay out of the heat with access to drinks, freezies and washrooms... TV monitor has been set up to play movies through the day and this has been a big hit. We have also seen higher numbers accessing the “to go” meal program. It's not unusual to serve 75 people at our evening meals. Four Summer Students Join Our Team The addition of 4 summer students to our staff team has been a great boost for us. They are helping to run the cooling centre, painting tired walls and hallways, prepping meals etc. We are thankful to have them with us and are doing what we can to ensure that they enjoy their summer, gain new skills, and experience the beauty of the Royal City Mission community. Worship With Us In Person or on Facebook Live We're holding services in our sanctuary each Sunday at 11 am. Physical distancing measures are in place and face masks are required. These services are also streamed live on Facebook. Although we have had some tech issues, we are learning each week and should be offering seamless streaming within a few years! (Lol). Special thanks to those who have taken on this additional work. Six months ago, streaming was a distant thought for us, and there is a learning curve as well as a financial commitment to offering this kind of service. We are trying to offer good quality on a low budget - two things that don’t always go together. Please be patient with us as we all learn new skills. By the way, did you know that our Sunday teaching is now available by podcast? Look for Royal City Mission on your favourite podcast platform or visit anchor.fm/royalcitymission. Grace Community Church has started using the building for recording and reduced seating services. We welcome Grace to our space and look forward to working together. How Can I Help? Everyday, the doorbell rings and someone has something to share with the community; one day trays of strawberries, the next, fresh lettuce from the farm, baked goods etc. etc. Thank you to everyone who has been able to help us in this way! Currently we are looking for laptop computers that you are no longer using. These would be used by guests for searching the internet while in the cooling centre. With the libraries closed, we have people in need of internet access to look for housing, jobs etc. Please contact [email protected] if you have a laptop computer that you would be willing to donate for this purpose.
And as always, there is an ongoing need for baked goods and drinks. Please contact Lisa Laws ([email protected]) if you have questions about the donation of food items. Thanks again for your generous participation in our service in the community. Kevin Coghill ED/Lead Pastor, Royal City Mission |
